August 19, 2009
In July, average daily output of cast iron in Ukraine rose 13.4% over the previous month, to 76,300 tonnes, and averaged 80,100 t for the first 10 days of August, according to Vasyl Kharakhulakh, president of Metallurgprom, an industry association.
Mr. Kharakhulakh spoke during a meeting to discuss the provision of raw materials to companies in the metals and mining industry (MMI) for September 2009.
“Currently, 28 of the 41 blast furnaces, 19 of 21 convectors and 15 of 42 open-hearth furnaces belonging to companies in Metallurgprom are in operation,” said Mr. Kharakhulakh.
On the whole, according to Mr. Kharakhulakh, the supply of metalworks with raw materials has been satisfactory since the beginning of the year. After growing significantly in Q2’09, the proportion of imported iron ore has been going down as well.
