Mykolayiv sells most grain to Asia and Africa

The Main Statistics Administration has published the results of commercial activity in Mykolayiv Oblast regarding foreign trade in goods for the first seven months of 2009. Notably, grain was in first place for exports in this oblast, accounting for 43% of all traded goods.
According to the State Customs Service of Ukraine, 17 Mykolayiv Oblast enterprises shipped a total of 2,422,000 t of grain worth a total of US $329 million over January–July 2009. This was 8% more than in the same period of 2008.
The breakdown of grains was: 48% wheat, 35% maize, 15% barley, 2% other cereals (sorghum, buckwheat, rice and millet. A year ago, the breakdown was 40% barley, 31% wheat and 28% maize.
The number of countries to which this grain is being exported has grown from 24 to 30. More than half of the exported grain went to Asian countries (Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Jordan, and Iran), 35% went to African countries (Libya and Sudan) and 14% went to Europe (mostly Spain).
TOV Nibulon, a grain trader, traded the most actively with foreign partners and the lion’s share of grain shipped abroad was its grain.
