President orients investors around Ukraine’s economy
October 14, 2009
Ukraine’s President Viktor Yushchenko announced that Ukraine was orienting towards new, concrete results in all areas of collaboration, especially in the farm sector, energy, aeronautics and heavy engineering. His comments came during a regional meeting of fund investors organized by Horizon Capital, an investment fund.
“Today, our farm sector is not only growing but developing well and showing considerable potential,” said Mr. Yushchenko, noting specifically opportunities to work in organizing the infrastructure of the agricultural market in Ukraine. “This sector offers unique opportunities, from both the perspective of production and that of processing,” the President emphasized.
Mr. Yushchenko went on to discuss the opportunities presented by the fuel industry, bringing up extraction of oil and gas from the Black Sea shelf. The President also noted that energy conservation, renewable energy and the production of biofuels were very promising areas in Ukraine. Mr. Yushchenko particularly drew investor attention to the prospects of cooperating in plans to build the Eurasian Gas Transport Corridor (EAGTC) and in the modernization of the national gas transport system (GTS).
The country’s Head of State invited investors to actively participate in projects around the preparation and running of the Euro 2012 Football finals. “To my mind, Euro 2012 is a great example of our integration into Europe,” he stated.
President Yushchenko noted the significant improvement in the investment climate over 2005–2009 in Ukraine. The growth of foreign investment in this country to nearly US $38 billion over the last four years was clear evidence of this, he said. Mr. Yushchenko particularly drew attention to the fact that, this year, despite the worldwide economic crisis, Ukraine saw US $3 billion in foreign investment come in.
The President ended his speech by wishing his audience well in the implementation of joint projects in Ukraine.
