Yanukovych begins to “radically restructure” Ukraine
March 3, 2010
President Viktor Yanukovych has launched a “radical restructuring” of Ukraine.
Ukraine’s new President has signed a number of socially-oriented decrees, including a Decree to fight poverty, a Decree on economic reforms, and a Decree aimed at combating corruption.
“These are our first three steps on the path to radically restructuring the entire government machine so that it serves the people,” said Mr. Yanukovych. Among others, he signed a Decree to combat poverty. “I promised people that I would do everything so that justice would be served in this extremely difficult time for the country. To raise the level of wages and pensions, this is what I’ve done. This was the first Decree that I signed,” read a statement.
The second Decree signed today was aimed at launching the process of rapidly undertaking structural economic reforms in Ukraine. This will allow the country to build a strong economy. “In this way, we expect to generate new jobs and to give people decent work for a decent wage,” the Head of State said firmly.
The third Decree was aimed at setting up a system for eradicating corruption in Ukraine.
“I want to emphasize that every day that I’m in this high office that the people have entrusted me with will be dedicated to the war against poverty and to changing life in this country. These are the goals we have set ourselves. And we will achieve them,” said Viktor Yanukovych.
