Ukraine And Kuwait Discuss Ways Of Strengthening Bilateral Cooperation

The first meeting of the Ukrainian-Kuwaiti interstate commission for issues of economic and trade cooperation took place in Kyiv.
The Kuwaiti delegation included representatives of different government institutions, including delegates from the Kuwaiti Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, etc. The Kuwaiti side was headed by the Minister of Commerce and Industry of Kuwait Mr. Falah Fahd Al-Hajeri.
In its turn, the Ukrainian side was represented by delegates from the Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Regional Development and Construction, Ministry of Housing and Communal Services, and others. The Ukrainian delegation was headed by the Minister of Economy of Ukraine Mr. Bohdan Danylyshyn.
In the frames of the commission work, the sides held talks on the ways of extending cooperation between the two countries in the spheres of economy, trade and engineering, as well as in other fields of mutual interest. The Kuwaiti side expressed interest in increasing the trade turnover between the two countries, in addition to its intentions to consider investment projects, which can be offered by the Ukrainian government.
The Ukrainian side expressed interest in cooperation with Kuwait in different spheres, and also confirmed its readiness to participate in Kuwaiti investment projects, in particular in the sectors of construction, pharmacology, as well as oil and gas. Also, the Ukrainian side underlined the importance of work of the first meeting of the interstate commission and expressed confidence that Ukraine and Kuwait will be able to reach agreement in determining the ways of strengthening and extending mutual cooperation.
It is worth reminding that the activities of the commission are participated by the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED), which offered its help in the sphere of providing state credits for development of the infrastructure of Ukraine in the frames of preparation to Euro-2012. Kuwait was the only Arabian state which, with the help of the KFAED, provided financial aid for overcoming the aftermath of the Chornobyl accident in the general amount of USD 6 million.
