Ukraine’s industry needs US $25 billion in investment annually

Ukraine’s industry needs US $25 billion in investment every year, although the actual amount being injected is around 10 times less, according to Industrial Policy Minister Dmytro Kolesnykov. He made the statement during an advisory session on industrial support and development at the regional level.
Minister Kolesnykov noted that 38% of investment in capital assets is actually directed at industry. “Experts say that the volumes needed for Ukraine’s industrial assets today is around US $25 billion a year. Yet the actual amounts being invested these days are one tenth of that,” he said.
According to the Minister, these low indicators are the result of high regulatory barriers, corruption and an incomplete normative and legislative environment. In addition, Mr. Kolesnykov reported that 19% of investment goes to Kyiv, when broken down by region, and 44% is divided among the major industrial belts.
