May sees 0.6% deflation in consumer prices

In May 2010, Ukraine saw consumer prices contract by 0.6%, according to a statement released by Derzhkomstat, Ukraine’s official statistics agency.
Moreover, prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages slid 1.4% during May, while prices for clothes and footwear slipped only 0.1%. Residential services rates and educational costs inched up 0.2%, while healthcare services crept up 0.5%.
Inflation was 3.7% over January–May 2010. Compared to May 2009, inflation was up 8.5% in May 2010. In April, 0.3% deflation led to an inflation rate of 4.4% for January–April. Whereas in 2008, annual inflation was 22.3%, it was only 12.3% in 2009.
The Cabinet of Ministers has forecast 3.7% GDP growth and y-o-y inflation of 13.1% for 2010.
