Exports of Ukrainian grain to Saudi Arabia will grow to 1 million tonnes, according to negotiations among top officials in Ukraine’s Agricultural-Industrial Complex and the Royal Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at the 22nd International AGRO 2010 Agricultural Industry Exhibition in Kyiv. The meeting was the initiative of the Ukraine-Near East Business Center.
Ukraine’s Agricultural Policy Minister Mykola Prysiazhniuk, Director of the Business Center and National Deputy Pavlo Klymets, Saudi Arabia’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture Dr. Abdullah A. Al-Obeid, and other representatives of the ministry were present at the meeting. The talks led to a decision to launch systemic AIC cooperation and a declaration of intent to establish joint ventures and techno parks in the sector in Ukraine.
The two sides agreed that cooperation between Ukraine and Saudi Arabia in this sector is important and looked at the opportunities for Middle East partners to invest in Ukraine’s economy. According to AP Minister Prysiazhniuk, exports of Ukrainian grain to Saudi Arabia will be increased to 1 million tonnes in the new marketing year. Details of an investment plan between profile ministries of the two countries have already begun to be worked out in cooperation with the Ukraine-Near East Business Center.
“The Business Center is helping to speed up dialog between Ukraine and the countries of the Middle East,” said Deputy Klymets. “Eventually, we plan to launch high-level negotiations with top officials from Qatar, Oman, the UAE and other countries in order to open Ukraine to the Middle East and to undertake large-scale investment projects that we expect will bring an influx of investment capital, modern technologies and new jobs.”
Brief: Opened in 2009, the Ukraine-Near East Business Center’s operations center on promoting goods made by Ukrainian enterprises, searching for investors in countries of the Middle East (Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Iran, and Iraq), and organizing joint events: business forums, conference and others.
