Deputy Minister of Economy
Mykhailo Rusynskiy announced at a press conference that June inflation was
0.5%.
“I think that it’s hard to
forecast just yet, but the trends that we saw in April and May could be in for
an adjustment now,” said Mr. Rusynskiy. “Inflation has affected prices for
vegetables, which have become more expensive. I expect inflation to be around
0.5%.”
Earlier, Derzhkomstat, the
state statistics agency, announced that inflation from the beginning of the
year had not gone over 4.4%, compared to 6.9% in the same period of 2009 and
13.1% in 2008. To reduce inflationary pressure, efforts were made to steadily
revive confidence in the banking system among depositors.
According to National Bank of
Ukraine (NBU) forecasts, inflation will be around 12-13% for 2010.
