Ukraine #1 in barley exports in the world

Ukraine continues to maintain the leadership position in the world for exports of barley, with volumes nearly double those of its nearest competitor, Australia. Russia is third, coming in between Australia and the European Union.
In the 2009-2010 season, Ukraine remained in third place among leading grain export countries, together with Russia, its main competitor on world markets.
“In this past marketing year, Ukraine and Russia each exported around 21.2mn tonnes of grain,” said Serhiy Stoyanov, General Director of the Ukrainian Agricultural Confederation.
According to UAC data, Ukraine exported 62mn t of barley, 53mn t of maize, 9.3mn t of wheat, and 0.4mn t each of peas and buckwheat.
In fourth place and 1.8mn t behind the leaders is Argentina, which exported 19.4mn t of grain, including 13mn t of maize, 4mn t of wheat and 0.6mn t each of barley and rice.
In addition, Ukraine has maintained the top position in the world for exports of sunseed for several years now.
