Ukraine’s farm sector 90% ready for market relations

Ukraine’s Agricultural Policy Minister Mykola Prysiazhniuk expressed confidence that the country’s agricultural sector is 90% ready to completely switch to operating under market conditions. He stated this in response to a question about the Comprehensive Reform and Development Program for Ukraine’s farm sector.
“This is the path our country has freely chosen and along which it is successfully moving,” said the Minister.
Further, Mr. Prysiazhniuk noted, the Reform and Development Program for Ukraine’s farm sector put together by the government, analysts and managers of top agribusiness companies has as its goal quality reform of key sectors of agriculture. Priorities are to develop the crop growing, pig breeding and the breeding of dairy livestock. The Agricultural Ministry estimates the cost of undertaking this comprehensive farm sector reform and development program over 2010-2017 at UAH 85.952bn. This sum is established in the concept for the state program published on the Ag Ministry’s website.
