August 31, 2010
In July 2010, Ukraine’s GDP rose 2.5% over the same period of 2009 and 5.0% for the first seven months of 2010, according to the National Bank of Ukraine, according to a statement by the NBU’s Executive Director for Economic Issues, Ihor Shumylo.
At the same time, he noted, inflation crept back in to between 0% and 1% in August because of a rise in rates for natural gas and residential services, following four months of steady deflation.
Mr. Shumylo also noted that the regulator is sticking to its forecast for GDP growth for 2010 of around 4% coupled with annual inflation around 10-12%.
Note that in Q1’10, GDP grew 4.9% in Ukraine, accelerating to 6.0% in Q2.
