NAK Naftogaz Ukrainy, a national stock company, has extracted its first 100,000 barrels (13,500 tonnes) of oil from the Gharadig oilfield as part of a project to develop hydrocarbon reserves in the Alam El Shawish Еаst concession area in the Western Egyptian Desert, according to a press release issued by the company.
In line with an agreement with the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), Naftogaz Ukrainy has been working to build a system for collecting and shipping oil extracted early from the Gharadig field to the EGPC base at Abu Senan. EGPC has agreed to allow early production of up to 2,000 barrels a day.
In the course of this project, the company has dug 12 probes and 2 exploratory wells. Five deposits of hydrocarbons have been discovered. The total oil and gas reserves at three of the deposits have been estimated at 10 million t of conventional fuel. Assessments of the stock at the other two deposits continue.
