Government Lifts Grain Export Quotas
April 24, 2008
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has lifted the grain export quotas, Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko said.
She specified that the government forecasts a good grain harvest in 2008; therefore, it is no longer necessary to restrict the grain exports.
As it was reported earlier, on March 26, the Cabinet of Ministers approved a decision to increase the grain export quotas and prolong them from March 31 till July 1, 2008.
In addition, during today’s meeting, the Cabinet increased the sunflower oil export quotas.
“We can see that the prices for this commodity are gradually falling in the retail, and we are smoothly approaching the elimination of the restrictions ,” Tymoshenko said.
It should be reminded that Ukraine suspended the sunflower oil exports starting March 22, as the government introduced quotas on exports of this commodity.
