First Vice Prime Minister Oleksandr Turchynov to Go on Working Visit to Syria October 8-10

The program of the visit envisages Turchynov’s meeting with the Prime Minister of the Syrian Arab Republic Mohamed Naji Otari, UNIAN has reported. The First Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine will participate in the meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Ukrainian-Syrian Commission for the Issues of Trade, Economic, and Technical Cooperation, which is to take place on October 9. Besides, Turchynov is to hold meetings with Syrian Finance Minister Mohammed Hussein, Minister of Industry Fouad Al-Jouni, Foreign Affairs Minister Walid Muallem, and Economy Minister Amer Lutfi. During the talks, the sides plan to discuss cooperation in the spheres of industry, energy, transportation, agriculture, as well as in the space industry, construction, social policy, and healthcare. Within the frames of Turchynov’s working visit to Syria it is planned to sign a number of documents between the states. In particular, these are the Agreement between Ukraine and Syria on Legal Relations and Mutual Legal Assistance in Civil and Criminal Affairs, Intergovernmental Memorandum on Mutual Understanding and Cooperation in the Sphere of Water Supplying and Water Disposal, Intergovernmental Memorandum on Mutual Understanding in the Sector of Civil Construction and Spatial Planning, Protocol between the State Customs Service of Ukraine and the Syrian Customs Administration on the Order of Cooperation Concerning the Issues of Customs Statistic Information Exchange. As it has been reported earlier, on Wednesday morning a decree was posted on President Viktor Yuschenko’s official website, which assigned Turchynov to the Ukrainian delegation to participate in the negotiations between Ukraine and the Syrian Arab Republic concerning the signing of an agreement between Ukraine and the Syrian Arab Republic on mutual legal assistance in civil and criminal affairs.
