Ukraine presents unique weaponry in the UAE

Ukraine presented its new missile launchers and heavy weapons at the prestigious IDEX 2009 arms show that took place in the United Arab Emirates last week.

“Shot and forgot” That’s the nickname given to the launching complex intended to damage armored equipment. It is equipped with a laser-firing and TV control system. The system is generally installed in the turret of a tank or APC. If explosives have been placed anywhere along its path, the system blocks their signals.

The Donetsk invention has already been assessed by Ukrainian soldiers in Iraq. And Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense will begin buying such complexes wholesale for the domestic army as of next year.

Ukrainian heavy weapons were represented by a single model, the BTR-4 Parus (Sail) battle-ready version, with a reinforced body, powerful weaponry, and anti-mine protection.

“In the earlier models of the BTR, the soldier firing the missiles was in the turret, whereas in this one, firing takes place from the operator’s seat, with the help of a camera that can turn 360º. Firing can go on day and night,” its builders say.

The exhibition of VIP arms technology involving 50 countries took place in Abu Dhabi.
