Ukraine reached an agreement with Iran concerning cooperation in the area of standardization

The signing of a Memorandum concerning cooperation in the area of standardization between State Committee on Technical Regulation and Consumer Policy of Ukraine and the Institute of Standards and Industry Research of Iran as well as between International exhibition company Kaspian and Ukrainian exhibition and informational center took place in Teheran during the 3rd General Assembly of Committee on Trade Regulation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Ukraine.
As informed by LIGABusinessInform in the press center of the Ministry of Economy, during the Committee session negotiations between Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine Valeriy Pyantnitskiy and representatives of the Iranian government were held. In particular, the parties considered the ways of development of two-way trade and economic relations, the ability to comply with the Memorandum of the previous Committee session and agreed upon necessity of further development of trade relations as well as upon increase in two-way commodity turnover between the countries.
Besides, the Ukrainian delegation reached agreements on assistance from banking institutions to open branch banks in Iran and Ukraine.
The parties also agreed to hold the next Committee session on Trade Regulation and the 1st Business Council Session in May 2008 in Kiev. While the Committee session was being held, Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine and Deputy Minister of Trade of Iran had a business forum during which the Ukrainian delegation informed the Iranian colleagues about perspectives of Ukraine joining the World Trade Organization (WTO).
It should be reminded that the representative of the Iranian Chamber of Commerce and Industry at the Embassy of Iran in Ukraine Mehrabi Ali Askar previously stated that the commodity turnover between Ukraine and Iran during the nine months of 2007 constituted US $420 mn (US $340 mn in 2006). “We’d like to have the commodity turnover between us and Ukraine to amount at least US $1-2 bn. We have all the potential to achieve this result”, emphasized Mehrabi Ali Askar.
