Ukraine increases grain exports by almost 20%

December 29, 2015
Since the beginning of the 2015/2016 marketing year (July 2015 – June 2016) Ukrainian farmers have exported 20 million tons of grain crops, 18% more than the previous year, Ukraine’s Ministry of Agricultural Policy and Food reported.

"20 million tons have already been exported, which is 18% more than last year. This implies additional foreign currency earnings for the state,” commented Vladyslava Rutytska, Deputy Minister of Agricultural Policy and Food.

The Deputy Minister noted that this season Ukraine is expected to supply to foreign markets nearly 36 million tons out of 61.1 million tons of grain crops harvested this year.
In 2015, Ukrainian farmers harvested a total of 61.1 million tons of grain on the area of 14.6 million hectares.

Last season Ukraine exported 34,8 million tons of grain crops.

On November 19, Ukraine’s Ministry of Agricultural Policy and Food signed a memorandum with grain traders on a maximum threshold for export volumes and planned quarterly supplies to foreign markets, in order to ensure state food security.
