IGC growth outlook for Ukraine’s exports remains positive

April 9, 2014
The International Grains Council (IGC) raised its growth outlook for Ukraine’s export volumes in the current marketing year, July 2013-June 2014, by 100,000 tonnes, up to 32mn t, the Council’s March report read.

The IGC also forecasted a decline in grain consumption by some 100,000 tonnes, to 29.3mn t. The Council’s estimation of Ukraine’s grain production volumes remained on the same level, 67.4mn t. The carry over stock estimate also remained the same at 6.2mn t.

Earlier, some experts had expressed concerns saying that Ukraine might witness a decline in grain export volumes due to the crisis. However, Ukrainian Minister of Agricultural Policy and Food Ihor Shvaika said that the country would secure grain exports despite Russia’s hostile policies.

The APF Ministry has projected that Ukraine’s export volumes would reach 33mn t in the 2013-2014 marketing year, which could be a record for the country.

According to the Derzhstat, the state statistics agency of Ukraine, grain volumes reached nearly 63mn t in 2013, 36.3% more than in 2012.
