Saudi Arabia Eyes Increasing Import of Ukrainian Poultry

July 26, 2016
Saudi Arabia is interested in reviving and increasing import of poultry from Ukraine, as Judiya Alhathal, Saudi Arabia`s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Ukraine, announced at the meeting with Taras Kutovyi, the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine. The Ambassador Alhathal stressed that investments in Ukrainian agrarian sector and privatization were important areas of cooperation between the two countries.

Minister Kutovyi assured that Ukraine was interested in developing bilateral cooperation with Saudi Arabia further, including that in the agrarian sector.

“Our Saudi partners might be interested in investing in Ukrainian agriculture. Production of goods with higher added value, development of small and medium businesses as well as privatization look especially promising,” said Kutovyi.

Besides, Kutovyi informed Judiya Alhathal of preparing a list of subsidiary enterprises scheduled for privatization, which may interest foreign investors.

Ukraine is among the top 10 countries where Saudi Arabia plans to implement the initiative of the King Abdullah aimed at investing in the agrarian sector abroad. The trade volumes between the two countries in 2015 were estimated at USD 473 million (USD 403 million  –  grains, USD 61.5 million  – oil, and USD 8.5 million – revenues from other products). Given that Ukraine does not have any sizeable imports from Saudi Arabia, the commodity flow is supplied exclusively by the Ukrainian exports. During first five months of 2016, Ukraine exported USD 53.1 million worth of goods to Saudi Arabia.
